Sleeping position for pregnant women
Women face a lot of difficulties while sleeping in pregnancy, as there are number of facilities and guidelines provided in cities which create soothing environment for them and mostly their families are supportive. But if we talk about rural areas, people are less concerned and women have to face more problems due to lack of knowledge because they don’t have sufficient medical facilities. Let’s talk about pregnancy sleeping position.
You never find any difficulty while sleeping in starting days of pregnancy, you can choose any position. But as the fetus’ size increases things become difficult. First problem a pregnant woman faces that she can’t sleep on her stomach because it is impossible to sleep in this position and secondly it is not good for the health of unborn baby. In 6th and 7th month of pregnancy, the size of womb enlarges in such a way that a pregnant woman can’t even sleep straight on her back because it directly affects the back bone and create many other health issues.
There are three trimesters of pregnancy:
- First trimester: The first trimester lasts from week 1 to 13- months first, second and third of pregnancy.
- Second trimester: The second trimester of your pregnancy is from week 13 to week 28-nearly months fourth, fifth and sixth.
- Third trimester: The third trimester of your pregnancy is from week 29 to week 40-months seventh, eighth and ninth.
Sleeping position during pregnancy in first trimester
Women feel very exhausted during pregnancy; they need more sleep than before. In first trimester women should sleep on the side instead of sleeping on your front or back. But the accurate position of sleeping is on the left side, sleeping on the right side can create problems regarding liver. To sleep on left side is the best position as it avoids the uterus from exerting pressure on the liver and it allows the fetus to get sufficient oxygen and nutrients through the placenta. It helps to improve blood circulation.
Sleeping positions during pregnancy in second trimester
In this stage many would be mothers start to feel more vigorous, pregnant women generally enjoy the sleep in second trimester. While sleeping, lie on your side with your knees and hips bent and your pillow should be placed between your knees, under your abdomen and behind your back. Keep sleeping-get sound sleep of eight hours a night.
Sleeping positions during pregnancy in third trimester
The final phase of your pregnancy journey-The third trimester
Use pillows and cushions to get comfortable sleep during third trimester. You should choose left side to sleep and place between your legs and behind your back for extra support. Lying down on the bed may not be comfortable for you during third trimester.
